The sudden downpour of rain didn’t dampen people’s spirits when the event was suddenly moved indoors.
Back by popular demand, last year’s magician, Taylor Knapp, returned to the Summer BBQ and Pitch-in and put on a another memorable show.
A poor weather forecast didn’t stop neighbors from bringing favorite summer dishes and gathering at Historic Meridian Park’s annual Summer BBQ & Pitch-in! The July 20 party was rained “in” around 5 pm when a dark front shrouded the neighborhood with pouring rain. Christy Krieg’s home on Washington Boulevard harbored party goers, where the event continued in a relative steam sauna. Dick Luchtman and Steve Towns showed off their grilling expertise—will one of them win the Chili Cook-off in September? There have been several requests for Dick’s hamburger recipe, but he has been very tight lipped!
Local magician Taylor Knapp gave a great show that had children and adults howling in laughter. Under his guidance, Gretchen Turner showed off her childhood bubble gum blowing skills and dance moves – both at the same time! John Carmer’s red panties somehow made it into the magician’s hands. How did he do that?
Special thanks to Sharon Gamble, Jess LaNore, Doug Day, Amy Rubin and Jim Naremore for their help setting up tables and chairs. For their super-duper rain duties, Gretchen and Greg Turner and Karla Johnson deserve medals. They sacrificed their dry clothes and hair for the benefit of all! Many thanks to those who helped tear down: Rich McCoy, Bob Bronson, John Carmer, Jerry Johnson, Doug Day and other brawny neighbors. Finally, Josh Englebright’s truck was a huge help in carting tables and chairs. Thanks, Josh!
