Neighbors,
Happy Spring! We made great progress on the Pocket Park last year. With the help of neighbors, donors, and volunteers, we added concrete walkways, picnic tables, a bike rack, additional fencing on the west side, and beautified the property by weeding, seeding, and mulching. Over the past five years, it has been a dream come true to watch our vision come to life. What went from an idea to add much needed greenspace to the neighborhood blossomed into something even more: a neighborhood gathering place, a walking destination, and a safe place for kids to play! Thank you to everyone who has been part of this effort.
So what’s on the agenda this year? With enough financial support, we’d like to provide the following upgrades and finishes:
- Creation and installation of official park signage
- Removal of the tree from the back fence-line so that we can finish fencing
- Addition of more benches and picnic tables
- Creative/imaginative additions to the play structure as well as toddler equipment
- Addition of a commercial size trash and recycling receptacle
Will you consider donating time or money to help the park? As little as an hour a month could really help beautify the park. And no donation is too large or small! Let’s make this year the best ever for park improvements. Remember that having a park in the neighborhood not only provides greenspace, social space, and play space, but it’s great for home values as well!
To volunteer time or money – please contact Pocket Park Chair Cassie Mehlman-Rhys at 317-997-2791 or cassiemehlmanrhys@gmail.com or go to the Mapleton Fall Creek homepage (our fiscal partner) at https://mfcdc.org/ to make a tax deductible donation. Be sure to select “donate” and then in seller instructions write in “HMP Pocket Park” to ensure the funds are allocated correctly to our account.
Together, let’s continue to put the “park” in Historic Meridian Park!
