This past October, HMP celebrated the first Annual Kids’ Social in the newly-acquired pocket park. Many children turned out to enjoy arts and crafts, cornhole, frisbee, hula hooping, and swinging. Stacey and Jeff Patrick donated Nicey Treats for the children and adults to enjoy and the parents had a chance to catch up with one another. The HMPNA Board would like to thank everyone that came out for the Annual Kids’ Social. Already the pocket park is proving to be the perfect location to bring neighbors together.
But our work is not done. We’ve reached a milestone in our land acquisition and it is important that we do not lose momentum. The Board has submitted a second grant to help offset the cost of building a park shelter. Fundraising efforts will continue as we have many things that still require financing that our KIB grant will not cover. Please be as generous as possible towards the pocket park fund. Multi-year commitments are accepted. Pocket park donations are separate from neighborhood dues and we ask that you contribute to each separately. The donations to the pocket park are tax deductible and will need to be made through the Mapleton Fall Creek Development Corporation clearly marked for the HMP Pocket Park.
Our task as a neighborhood is to remember the benefits of our park and keep our eyes on the prize. As we look forward to the development of the green space and what is to come, we should relish that fact that we are one step closer to realizing our dream.
As a reminder, the pocket park is not officially open and may be used for Board-sponsored activities only. Without clear markings, it is difficult for neighbors to know where the park property line ends and the adjoining property line begins. To be respectful of the adjoining property owners, neighbors are asked not to use the park space without Board approval until further notice.
