Are you new to the neighborhood? An empty nester with more time than you are used to? Or just ready to become more engaged in the neighborhood? Then this is the post for you.
It will come as no surprise that during these stressful times that turning to each other for support is important. One such opportunity, still in its infancy, is available to the women of HMP. The inaugural event was a small group of women who gathered in the home of a resident and spoke for 4 hours, sharing and supporting each other through stressful political times. The group was named Turning to Each Other and plan to meet regularly to share support and resources to deal with trying times. The Facebook group is available to HMP women and all are encouraged to join. It’s a fantastic way to meet other neighbors, share stories, connect, and engage. Meeting details are still being determined. The more input from interested members will help determine the best meeting times and days.
The HMP Book Club is another way to engage with neighbors. All are welcome. The group decides which book to read next and a book club meeting/discussion is hosted at a member’s home. This long-standing club is a real jewel of the neighborhood. Come to one or all of the meetings and speak as little or as much as comfortable.
The HMP/Mapleton-Fall Creek Walking Group is looking for new members. The more the merrier and all are welcome. The group has been meeting every Wednesday at 8:00 PM for a brisk 3-mile walk. It’s the perfect way to wrap up the day, chat with a neighbor, and get some steps in before calling it a night. Bring a friend, flashlight, reflective gear, and walking shoes. Don’t have a friend? Join the walking group. No flashlight or reflective gear? No problem. Other walkers will have some. Please check the HMP and Mapleton-Fall Creek Facebook pages for more information. As the group grows, other days may be added.
In addition to the groups and clubs, the HMPNA hosts several social events throughout the year. A schedule of events will be on the neighborhood Facebook page, this website, and in the Urban Times. Social events are an excellent time to meet neighbors and the neighborhood association can always use extra help in event planning, set up, and clean up.
