Neighborhood safety remains a top priority for HMP. As previous IMPD officers have mentioned, the North District is large and adequate staffing levels are challenging. IMPD depends on the help from the community to keep neighborhoods safe. One tool in the toolbox includes the b-link camera network. The program allows the registration of personal and business security cameras to create a network of live-stream video access for IMPD to utilize in the event of a crime or incident in the vicinity.
According to the program FAQs, the b-link program is a multi-faceted approach that utilizes technology to help IMPD enhance public safety. Whether you register the location of your personal security cameras, provide IMPD live stream video access to your business security cameras, or adopt-a-block in a neighborhood you love, you are part of the solution to public safety issues our community faces. The b-link camera program is not a monitoring service and homeowners and businesses will not be monitored through their cameras by IMPD but simply providing law enforcement with live stream access for IMPD’s Incident Analysis Center.
The b-link camera program for home is free. The city is offering grants for small businesses to offset the cost of cameras and participate in the program. Small businesses can apply for a one time grant for up to $2500 to install and manage business cameras. If your current cameras are not b-link compatible, participation in b-link program may involve installation costs. In addition, a $20 per camera per month fee will be required to maintain a cloud-based connection and provide priority service maintenance for b-link pro cameras. That fee will be paid directly to one of the b-link certified integrators or installers. Visit www.blinkindy.org for more information on the b-link program.
