Winter has played dirty tricks on our community. There have been days that felt like spring and days where it felt like temperatures were fast approaching absolute zero. It was during one of the coldest snaps of the year when schools were canceled that Cassie Mehlman-Rhys organized snow sumo wrestling, igloo and angel making, and snowball fights in the Pocket Park.
The park, years in the making, is almost complete. This is the place where neighbors envisioned social gatherings and places where children can play safely, get to know each other, and develop bonds that last a lifetime. When deciding whether to continue to support the park, each neighbor should look at the pictures of children playing in the park on one of the coldest days of the year, carefree and happy, and see the joy it brings. The park will need continued financial support for insurance and maintenance as well as physical labor on special occasions.
What is still needed for the Pocket Park?
- YOU and your physical and financial support
- The movie screen needs to be located and installed
- The 100-foot hose use for park watering has come up missing again; a safe storage or method is greatly appreciated
- Signage
- Toddler swing
