Kara Haughey was a former neighbor who dedicated many hours of effort to the neighborhood. She was a member of the HMPNA Board and the chair of the last Historic Meridian Park Home Tour. Kara, her husband Matt, and their two children, Haley and Jett, were constant fixtures at social events. When they moved to Florida, Kara began work at the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation at Kennedy Space Center.
Kara passed away last year. As a tribute to her and all the work she has done, Kara will be memorialized by having her remains aboard the upcoming Heritage Flight which will launch from the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral later this year. The launch date has been set for October 30, 2018.
A message from husband Matt Haughey, “That’s a great time of year here in Florida, it’s not too hot or busy. I did a quick check of airfare from Indiana and all the way to the west coast is about $300 round trip right now. However a word of caution: It is a rocket launch, it can be delayed for various reasons; weather, winds, anything.”
For those who are interested, but unable to attend, the launch will be viewable online. The website that has the launch info and will stream the launch live is https://www.celestis.com/launch-schedule/.
