The roundabout at 32nd and Pennsylvania Streets is getting a facelift. Last year the neighborhood planted beautiful drought-resistant plants on the roundabout and the triangle in HMP just in time for the drought! Thankfully once the drought ended, the roundabout and triangle recovered beautifully. As part of the Beautification and Gateway initiative, the HMPNA Board has purchased a decorative urn that will sit in the middle of the roundabout and provide the intersection with more appealing visual scenery. For commuters unfamiliar with the roundabout, or the concept of roundabouts, the Board is researching options for directional signage. Unfortunately, several commuters have failed to properly navigate the roundabout causing damage to the plants, signs, and occasionally the neighbors’ fence. Several options have been brought to the table such as having painted directional signage on the road, speed bumps to add to the directional signage on the stop signs, and painting the curb of the roundabout in a bright reflective paint. Look for more exciting changes to the neighborhood in 2013 and beyond. Again, if you have ideas or suggestions please contact a HMPNA Board member.

A representative from Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc., (KIB) spoke to the HMPNA Board about the Adopt-a-Block program. This is a great incentive for HMP residents to “take ownership” of the area around their homes. Responsibilities are minimal and are only aimed at keeping the area clean, presentable, and free of trash. KIB offers all the tools needed to do the job free of charge (tools, flowers, perennials/annuals). If you are interested in the Adopt-a-Block program please contact KIB for complete program details.
