On January 7, 2013, the HMPNA voted in three new board members.
The Board welcomes:
- Stormy Thrasher who has expressed an interest in crime prevention in our neighborhood
- Chris Gauthier who has an interest in reviving the Senior program and assisting senior and homebound HMP residents
- Wade Johnson who graciously hosted the dessert part of the first Annual Progressive Dinner
We look forward to working with the new Board to accomplishing even greater things in 2013.
Last year the HMPNA enjoyed many successful accomplishments. The HMPNA Board focused on several priority areas listed below with a few representative samples of the accomplishments detailed within.
Increase HMP Beautification and Pride:
- HMP Historic Marker located at crosswalk at 33rd and Pennsylvania St.
- Redesigned our green spaces at the roundabout and triangle-neighbors interested in assisting with the green space are encouraged to contact any member of the Board. Your assistance is greatly appreciated and always welcomed.
- Planted 20 new trees on Washington Blvd.
- Developed a Youth Clean Up program to work during alley clean up-If you know a young person that may be interested in assisting with the alley clean up please contact Karla Johnson at Johnson.karla67@gmail.com.This is a good opportunity for service hours.
Increased Quality of Life (QoL) and Social Connectivity Within the Neighborhood:
- Continue our quarterly social events-If you are interested in hosting an event please contact a board member.
- Had the first annual Progressive Dinner sponsored by the Board.
- Our neighborhood was part of the NUSA neighborhood tour.
- Participated in the Mid North QoL Plan.
Reduce Crime Within Our Neighborhood:
- Launched laser marking and engraving program. Neighbors interested in engraving their valuables should contact a board member for details.
- Hosted training on “crime proofing” your home.
Increase Green Space:
- Identified space for future HMP pocket park.
- Developed PR and communication package for pocket park.
- Developed and strengthened partnerships with KIB and MFCDC.
- Raised ~$13,000 towards the purchase of land for the pocket park. Your financial contributions are tax deductible and the HMP pocket park needs your help. Please contact a board member for assistance on making your financial contribution to the HMP pocket park.
Strengthen the HMP Brand and Board Efficiencies:
- Regained non profit status.
- Developed new HMP logo.
- Opened HMP Café Press site. Neighbors are encouraged to go the Café Press website and order HMP gears and products. Proceeds from the sale of items go towards the neighborhood to continue the good work of the board and neighbors.
