Residents at the HMP Fall Festival in 2007.
Jeanne Rieger is the defending Chili Cook-off champion, seen here winning the Golden Ladle award last year.

Gretchen Turner won the top prize in 2007’s cornbread competiton.

More than 60 neighbors attended the annual gathering which has become one of the neighborhood’s most popular social events. The family-friendly event included a sack race for children.

The annual Fall Festival, with its accompanying Chili Cook-off and Best Cornbread competitions, will be held September 28, from 4 to 7 pm. Gretchen and Greg Turner, 3233 Pennsylvania, have graciously agreed to host the event. Residents are invited to bring their favorite dishes and HMPNA will provide beverages and table service. For those of you who have been perfecting recipes since last year, here’s your big chance to win the Golden Ladle or Cornbread Plate — HMPNA’s de facto trophies! The judges will NOT accept bribes nor will they be swayed by threats or taunts, so let’s keep it clean this year.

Those who wish to compete must deliver their dishes by 4:45 pm to be included in the competition. Each competing dish is given a number, so the judges are “blind” to the creator, but not to the creation. Newcomers to the competition are welcome (and encouraged) to compete.

The Fall Festival is one of two summer social events held in lieu of our regularly scheduled neighborhood association meetings. The Fall Festival replaces our September meeting, while the Summer BBQ & Pitch-in replaced our July meeting.
